How the Application Process Works
The Posse selection process is unique and designed to identify students who traditional college admissions might miss.
It’s called the Dynamic Assessment Process (DAP) and it unfolds in three rounds from August to December of your senior year.
Step 1: Nomination
You can’t apply for the Posse Scholarship on your own. Your high school or a community-based organization must first nominate you.
Nominations typically open in the spring of your junior year. If you’re interested, talk to your school counselor or a teacher to see if they can nominate you.
Step 2: The Large Group Interview
The first round of the DAP is a large group interview. You’ll join about 100 other students for a three-hour workshop filled with fun, interactive activities.
This isn’t a typical interview where you sit across from a panel. Instead, Posse staff will observe how you interact with others, solve problems, and work in a team.
The goal is to see your leadership skills in action. After this round, the group is narrowed down to semifinalists.
Step 3: The Individual Interview
If you make it to the semifinalist round, you’ll be invited for a one-on-one interview. This is a more traditional 30-minute conversation with Posse staff.
You’ll have the chance to talk about your achievements, goals, and personal experiences. This is your opportunity to share your story and show why you’d be a great Posse Scholar.
Step 4: The Finalist Round
The final round brings together a group of 20-25 finalists for each partner university.
During this three-hour session, you’ll participate in more group activities and have a final interview with representatives from both the Posse Foundation and the partner college.
Shortly after this round, the 10 students selected for the Posse will be notified.
Life as a Posse Scholar
Being a Posse Scholar is about more than just the scholarship money.
It’s a comprehensive program designed to support you from your senior year of high school all the way through college and beyond.
Pre-Collegiate Training
Once selected, your Posse will meet weekly with a trainer for eight months (from January to August of your senior year).
These workshops help your group bond and prepare for the academic and social challenges of college.
You’ll cover topics like team building, cross-cultural communication, leadership, and academic excellence.
On-Campus Support
When you arrive on campus, you’re not alone. Your Posse is there with you, and you’ll have a dedicated mentor,a faculty or staff member at the university,who meets with you individually and as a group.
This mentor serves as a resource and guide, helping you navigate campus life and achieve your goals.
The Posse Alumni Network
After graduation, you become part of a network of over 14,000 Posse alumni. This powerful network can help you with career opportunities, graduate school applications, and professional development.
Posse alumni have gone on to become doctors, lawyers, artists, entrepreneurs, and leaders in many other fields.
